Nearly done with my Black Legion squad

Work has continued on my Black Legion squad, and I’m nearing the finish line. I’m satisfied with how they are turning out. It’s not my best work, but I have experimented with my Black Legion paint scheme with them. Fair warning, this post will be picture heavy:

Black Legion, champion and old marine
The squad champion and a bolter CSM.

The first pair here are one of the Chosen models from the Dark Vengeance set (which I will use as an aspiring champion)  and a Chaos Space Marine from the mid-1990s. The difference in detail on the models is pretty striking. There is just so much more detail on the newer models!

And the same two from the rear:

The Chosen model’s detail is just insane!

Again, the detail difference is really pronounced! There was just so much more to paint on the Chosen model. Hopefully, when (if!) the Chaos Space Marine model range gets updated, the detail found on the Chosen model will be standard for the troop models. Moving on to the next pair, a couple of plasma gunners:

Black Legion, plasma gunner marines
Plasma gunners – hopefully they won’t get too hot!

I think these guys came out pretty well. Just what I was expecting. I feel I improved on how I do flesh tones with the Chaos Space Marine on the right. I’ve been wanting to be able to field two 10-man squads with two plasma guns each, so these guys will allow me to do that. And the same models from the rear:

Rearview.

And without even meaning it, I think I’ve ended up with different heads on each of my four plasma gun-toting models. So that’s nice. And last up, a flamer Chaos Space Marine and a missile launcher Chaos Space Marine:

A flamer and a launcher.

These guys, I was not as happy with. Some of that has to do with the fact that the flamer Chaos Space Marine was already partially painted, and had been so for a while. I didn’t feel like the job was as clean as it could have been. And with the missile launcher Chaos Space Marine, I guess I’m just not a fan of the model. Of all the models in the squad, it was the one I had the least fun painting. I honestly like the loyalist missile launcher marine better. And these guys from the rear:

Watch the back blast!

Well, all that’s left is to base them (and paint the base of the champion), put the water transfers on, and then seal them up with varnish. Hopefully, I’ll have that done by the end of the day tomorrow. And next I’ll probably be heading back to my Khorne Daemonkin army. I just got a couple new units for them.

As always, thanks for reading!
