Return to the dinobots

Well, after completing my Call of Chaos vow, I went back to working on my Khorne Daemonkin units. In this case, it’s my two Maulerfiends. They were part of another painting challenge I failed to complete, but I’ve made headway now. One of them is just in the priming stage:

First Maulerfiend, primed

The other I have actually completed. You probably notice that the lasher tendrils are off the model above. If you remember from my last post about these guys, I magnetized the changeable components. You can probably even see part of the magnet in the socket there on the side. I have to say, I really am glad I took the time to magnetize these guys. From a painting perspective, it’s nice because there are areas that would be hard to get to with a brush, but that are still very much visible. Being able to remove intervening parts has been really convenient.

Working on a Dino-bot (or two!)

It’s been way too long since my last post. Over a month, in fact. That’s a bit shameful. Anyway, I tried to keep up with the E Tenebrae Lux V competition over at the Bolter & Chainsword, but I just couldn’t do it. Too much real life came tumbling down on my head. That said, I did get work done on one of my models, so that’s a lot better than previous building and painting challenges I’ve been involved in over there. So without further ado, here’s what I’ve been working on (off and on):

The first dino-bot I built.

I’ve been working on two Forgefiends/Maulerfiends. The “/” is because I’ve magnetized the heck out of these things, allowing me to convert the fiends to any configuration I want. The magnets hold pretty well, though there are a couple places I used smaller magnets when I should have gone Continue reading “Working on a Dino-bot (or two!)”

Working on new model: Skull Cannon of Khorne

First off, Happy Independence Day for those folks in the former 13 colonies!

It’s been far too long since I last posted. Even without the posting, I’ve been working on some more models. I’m once again entered into a modeling/painting challenge over at the Bolter and Chainsword. This time, I’m in the E Tenebrae Lux V competition. We’ll see if I can actually finish anything.

Assembled Skull Cannon.
Assembled Skull Cannon.

So first up is this Skull Cannon of Khorne. I’ve been wanting to add one of these to my Khorne Daemonkin army as a reserve unit I’ll summon off Blood Tithe points. One thing about this model is that the standard way of putting it together makes it hard to store. I modified mine to make it easier to put in foam.

Against the heirs of Sanguinius

Well, I was able to get in a game yesterday at the local Games Workshop store. It was a pick-up game at 1,500 points, with my Khorne Daemonkin against Blood Angels. This was the first time I’d faced Blood Angels since they got the new codex. It was a fun game.

"Maybe he won't find me here...."
“Maybe he won’t find me here….”

I was able to run a Bloodhost Detatchment, with a Gorepack, Soul Grinder (War Engine), and a Slaughtercult, with an attached basic Bloodthirster. The Slaughtercult was made up of a Lord on a Juggernaut, a squad of Berzerkers, a squad of Bloodletters, a squad of Chaos Space Marines with a Rhino, and a squad of Possessed. My opponent ran a couple of assault squads with jump packs, a Death Company squad with jump packs with an attached chaplain, a Sanguinary Guard squad, in which a Sanguinary Priest was attached, a couple full tactical squads in drop pods, and a Furioso Dreadnought in a drop pod.
